“O, Come Let Us Adore Him,” an exhibition of the nativity and other works of art dealing with the birth of Christ, will be back for its fifth year at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Columbia for three days only. These dates are Friday-Saturday, Dec. 1-2, from 10 A.M. -5 P.M., and on Sunday, Dec. 3, noon- 4:00 P.M.
In the past more than 500 works of art have been graciously loaned to the church for this exhibit. More than 500 visitors from many states have viewed these works, and this year promises even more varied pieces.
Priceless handmade treasures made of pasteboard by children, as well as delicate chalkware figures given to our former priest when he was a teenager, are among the works featured. Another work included a fabulous hand-carved set, created especially for the 2013 exhibit by Randy Walters, Columbia carver. There are incredible hand-painted Russian eggs depicting the blessed birth, beautiful icons from centuries past, many vintage sets used by families through the years, as well as tiny nativities and international nativities. There is also a room for our children visitors. The range of items is amazing. Numerous volunteers, some not even associated with the church, have donated time, talent, and their treasures to make this event possible. It is an excellent opportunity to observe the true meaning of the holidays and to participate in the experience of God’s gift to the world.
Other events at the church during the exhibit: Thursday, November 30 a preview party will be given for those who have participated. Friday, 2:00 P.M. in the sanctuary, Father Tom Wilson, Rector Emeritus at St. Peter’s, will make a presentation giving the history of each of the beautiful stained glass windows. Saturday, 4:00 P.M., the St. Peter’s Choir under the direction of choirmaster Don Marshall will lead us in the traditional “Lessons & Carols”. Sunday, 4:00 P.M. the Heimermann Children’s Choir & Chorale will perform in the Sanctuary.
